A clear chamber you can read
The pump is built around a transparent acrylic tube with a centimetre scale printed up the side, and an ABS body with two controls at the top.
The clear wall is the practical detail. You can see the seal forming, you can see whether it is holding, and you can read the scale directly rather than guessing.
Rigid, not flexible
Acrylic holds its shape under vacuum, which is what you want: a tube that flexes inward as pressure drops gives you an unreliable seal and an unclear reading.
The trade-off is that acrylic scratches and clouds. Keep it away from abrasive cloths and solvents, and wash it with mild soap rather than anything stronger.
Using it
The two controls at the top are for drawing and releasing pressure. Go slowly — the useful information is in how it feels and what the scale reads, not in how fast you can pull.
Give yourself a minute between pumps. Pressure that builds gradually is easier to judge than pressure that arrives at once, and stopping is always the right choice if anything feels sharp or numb.
Cleaning
Warm water and mild soap for both parts, then dry them separately — the tube especially, since water spots on acrylic are hard to remove once they dry.
Do not use alcohol or solvent cleaners on the acrylic. They cloud it permanently.
Storing it
Both parts are rigid, so they store easily. Keep the tube out of sunlight, which degrades acrylic over time, and do not stack anything heavy on it.
How it compares
Against a pump with an opaque cylinder, the difference is information. A clear tube lets you see the seal and read the scale; an opaque one leaves you judging by feel alone.
Against a pump with a pressure gauge, this is simpler and cheaper. The trade is precision: a gauge gives you a number, a scale gives you a measurement of the result rather than the pressure producing it.
Before you buy
Decide whether the tube diameter suits you. A cylinder that is too narrow is uncomfortable at the base, and one that is too wide loses its seal.
The other thing worth knowing: acrylic scratches. If it is going to be stored loose in a drawer with other things, keep it in a cloth bag rather than rattling against metal.
