The simplest version of a cup

No motor, no battery, no controls. A white ABS shell holds a soft TPE sleeve, and that is the whole object. Nothing inside it moves unless you move it.

Two materials doing two jobs

The split matters for maintenance. The sleeve comes out of the shell, which means the part that actually needs washing can be washed properly, and the shell only needs a wipe.

TPE warms up quickly in the hand and stays warm, which is most of the difference between this and a harder moulded cup. It is also the softer of the common sleeve materials, so the sensation is closer to give than to grip.

Use a water-based lubricant inside the sleeve. TPE does not tolerate silicone or oil-based lubricants — both degrade the surface over time and leave it tacky.

Looking after it

Pull the sleeve out, rinse it with warm water and mild soap, and let it dry completely before putting it back. Do not leave it assembled and damp: trapped moisture inside a closed shell is the fastest way to spoil TPE.

Store it dry and away from anything sharp or heavy. TPE marks and dents easily, so a drawer with space around it is better than a bag pressed against other things. A light dusting of renewal powder will stop the surface getting sticky between sessions if you use it often.

Against a closed single-mould sleeve, the ABS shell gives you a grip and keeps the sleeve steady, and the sleeve comes out for cleaning.
