Answer

Are these toys body-safe?

Every insertable product we stock is either non-porous silicone or TPE. Silicone is the more hygienic of the two because it does not absorb anything; TPE is softer and more skin-like but is porous and needs more care.

For: Anyone checking materials before they buy.

What "body-safe" actually means

It is not a certification. It describes a material that does not leach, does not trap bacteria, and can be cleaned properly. Two properties decide that: whether the material is porous, and what it is softened with.

Non-porous silicone cannot absorb anything, so soap and water genuinely clean it. Porous materials — TPE, and the jelly and PVC you sometimes see — hold onto what touches them, which is why they have a working life rather than a lifetime.

  • Silicone: non-porous, odourless, lasts. The safer default.
  • TPE: porous, soft and skin-like, common in torso dolls and sleeves. Needs renewing powder and earlier replacement.
  • Jelly / PVC: avoid. Porous and often softened with phthalates.

The lubricant rule

Silicone toys pair with water-based lubricant. A silicone-based lubricant can begin to break down a silicone surface over time, so use water-based with anything silicone.

Water-based lubricant is safe with every material we stock, which makes it the simple answer. Our [lubricant guide](/blog/how-to-choose-a-lubricant/) covers the exceptions.

Cleaning decides how long it lasts

Wash after each use, dry thoroughly before storing, and keep silicone and TPE apart — TPE can react with silicone in prolonged contact. The [full routine by material](/blog/cleaning-and-storing-your-toys/) has the steps.
